Can’t… stop….buying….baby clothes!!!
Who would you think is the worst in terms of clothes buying for Baby? Yeah, I thought it would be me, too. And I AM pretty bad about buying every cute thing I see. But you know who is going to spoil him beyond belief? Nope, not the Grandmas (though they are making a spectacular effort… and I mean truly spectacular). No… the worst would be Daddy - that’s right, we finally found Michael’s soft spot, and it is his little baby. Frankly, I think it is amazing and wonderful to see him get such joy before the little guy even arrives. I am just thanking my lucky stars we’re not having a girl because I don’t think he would be able to physiologically form the word no if she wanted anything. I think at least with a son we have a fighting chance.
No commentsAttack of the Twelve Year Old Girls!
I went swimming again today, and I have several observations to share. Other people’s children are annoying. They scream and kick water in your face when you are trying to flot on your back, and they sneak under the changing room door and try to peek at you while you are changing, which tends to give you a heart attck when you turn around and notice a little girl in the room with you. In fact other people in general are annoying. One lady was swimming and kicked out so wildly from her lane that she went into mine and kicked me in the back - hard - and didn’t even say she was sorry!!! What exactly did she think she kicked in the middle of the pool since there are only people and water. Had she kicked me in the stomach that hard I would have pummeled her. She’s lucky…. AND a lady sat next to me on the bus on the way home and jammed one of her 8000 packages in between herself and me so she could set the rest on her lap. Then her hair was getting all over my face. I actually had to ask her to move her package and hair. Which made me feel guilty for some reason. Yes I know I am cranky, and no, I don’t want any lip about it from anyone.
On a funny note - a 3 year old girl walked up to me at the pool, touched my belly, and said “was’sat?” (What’s that?) It was so adorable. And I was surrounded by a small horde of twelve year old girls oohing and ahhing over my belly. They had all never seen a real live pregnant belly before (I had my bikini on, so you could see it in all its glory). It was a little creepy, but mostly sweet.

It was really hot here yesterday - 84 degrees! Which is just about unbearable to the Brits. In fact they have issued heat wave warnings, and all the papers have headlines like “Killer Heat Wave!!!” To be fair, air conditioning is pretty unusual here, especially in people’s homes, and only the really big office buildings have it (Michael has to suffer with just a fan and an open window).
So it was fantastic to go swimming. Unfortunately, the adult basketball they had listed in conjunction with the open swim was ladies only, so even though Michael went with me to get some exercise himself, not being a lady (at least not officially), he wasn’t allowed to play. And Michael sinks when he swims, so he volunteered to go run around in the parking lot while I swam.
The pool was pretty busy, but I got some good laps in, and it was fun to be floating around and not have all that weight on my joints and feet. It didn’t actually feel so amazingly spectacular to be in the water, though it was very nice, but I really noticed the difference when I got out - I felt like a dinosaur trying to haul myself out of a tar pit before I turned into a fossil. I also made some friends based on the fact that I was apparently the only pregnant woman they had ever seen swimming. One guy from Kenya wanted to know all about why I was swimming, and had I been to Kenya, and what is Phoenix, Arizona like? The his French friend came over and wanted to show me how she could hold her breath under water… she was something like 25 years old. That type of behavior is cute when you’re 5, but 25? Anyway, it was a very fun evening, and since neither of us had to be in to work early this morning, we stayed up and had snacks and watched Heroes until midnight and then had a good, long sleep!

Yes - they really call them costumes over here, and no, you won’t be treated to a photo of me in it. I decided I need to get a little exercise, since it is hard for me to even walk that much these days. So Michael and I found a couple of pools nearby and we’re going to give it a go tonight. Well, I am anyway. Michael is going to play basketball at the same facility. Unfortunately, my size 6 bikini is a thing of the past (for now), so I went to the store to buy a maternity swim costume. None of the stores within a reasonable distance have maternity swim costumes for sale, so I started trying on big regular ones.To wedge my belly into a one piece, I had to go to such a big size that it just drooped everywhere else. The saleslady said I should just get a bikini, and who cares what all the monkeys think (there are going to be monkeys there?!?)! And since I am very suggestable, I just decided to go for it. I did get a sarong, too, so at least I am not revealing myself too much pre-swim.
Best part about being pregnant? I am parked on the bed in front of my computer eating ice cream when I am about to go swimming, and my big round belly is my pride and joy!
