Loving London
The top reason I love London today is that everyone walks really fast. if there is one thing I don’t like, it is walking slow, unless you are on a tour-y type walk. Another thing I really like is that every restaurant I go to has a lot of vegetarian items, marked with a “V.” It makes it so easy to see what you can eat – and there are multiple options, which is also nice. Last night I had edamame seared in a wok then seasoned with lemongrass and chili – tasted kind of like a barbeque sauce. Then for lunch today my new boss took me and one of my colleagues, Mark, out for lunch to a place called Wabamama. I had some kind of rice, tofu, egg, corn, and squash concoction, which was really good. So far I really like my job, and what it seems to be leading up to. I’ll have a lot of responsibility, but much of the work seems pretty fun, actually. For example, next week I have to go tour the main UK sites, including Manchester, Birmingham, and some other place I can’t remember. Then, in a few weeks/months, depending on scheduling, I’m being sent to either Hong Kong or India for some training!!! I also think I found a good place to live for 6 weeks – a French girl has a new room mate moving in 6 weeks from now, and needs someone to fill the gap. It is in a good location, and she seems really nice.I looked at another place, too, but the neighborhood seemed a little off. There were something like 50 “Chicken Cottages,” which seem to be the poor man’s KFC (yes, I realize that seems impossible), and that is never a good sign for a place to live. Also it was about 1 million degrees in the house. It will be a good place of last resort, but definitely not my top choice. I hate to be hurried in my decision, but I can’t get a bank account until I have an address, and I can’t get a National Insurance # until I have an address, and I can’t get paid until I have both. And London is really expensive, so getting paid is a top priority!
