I started off the day with the hotel’s breakfast, which consists daily of scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms, baked beans with tomato (?) sauce, sausages, blood patties, bacon, potatoes, fruit, and croissant. I really wanted to go back to Borough for breakfast, since it has been voted the best place in London for brunch, but I am trying to be fiscally responsible, and that means eating free food when it is there. I was seated next to a French group – seems like it was a man, his young daughter, and his 50ish mother. They were having breakfast too, when the began to have a very heated discussion. I couldn’t tell for sure, because they were speaking French, but it seemed like the little girl wanted to ask me to spend the day with them, and the grandma was telling her no because I am married. Of course I could be completely wrong, since I speak just a little French, but the hand gestures seemed kind of obvious. I’m not sure what I did to deserve the attentions of a 7 year old girl, but she was sweet.

Then I was off for my day. I started off with the intention of wandering over to the Camden Markets. But I decided to reverse my track and go to Hyde Park first. It is a lucky thing that I did, because I just happened across something called the Colonel’s Review, which is where the Colonel hold a rehearsal of the Trooping of the Colour. You can read details about it here:

Trooping the Colour

It was really cool to watch – it seemed like there were hundreds of guards and horses. I’m trying to upload a video to Flickr, but it is taking forever. Next week is the actual parade, where the queen will be present to review her troops and guards. I am going to try to go… I have heard it is a madhouse, but they only do it once a year, so I think it is worth it.

After the parade I wandered around Piccadilly Circus and Soho, which were cool, but really crowded. It reminded me a little of Tokyo, because there were just so many people. It was not my favorite part because I just don’t like crowds that much. I did find 3 vegan restaurant and ended up eating at a Tai (not Thai) restaurant. I don’t know what that means, but it was really good!

Saturday breakfasts aren’t the same anymore. Sounds like you’ve moved up in the world, no more cheap bagels and smear. I, on the other hand, have sworn off breakfast on Saturdays. Instead of going to get a bagel by my lonesome, I just sleep in til lunch time. Is it ideal? No, but I am coping with the loss of my yoga sister.
