Pizzeria Bianco, the Rose and the Crown

It is the only pizzeria to be given the James Beard Award; it consistently tops the list for best pizza in the States, and it even has a 2-3 hour wait to get a table. So the real question is, is Pizzeria Bianco truly the best pizza? In a word, yes. A group of us went on Saturday night, arrived at 5pm and were seated around 8:30 or so. The service was quick and fun, and the food was pretty unbelievable. I don’t know if any pizza is worth waiting almost 3 hours for, but if there is a such thing, this was it.

I ordered the Margherita, which was outstanding. The ingredients are unbelievably fresh and high quality. Due to curious friends, I was able to do some slice swapping to try the Marinara (which has no cheese bur oregano and garlic) and the Biancoverde (topped with arugula and three cheeses). All three were excellent, but I did feel that the Margherita was the superior pie. The Rosa was the only one I didn’t get to try that was vegetarian, but having 4 of 6 options open to me was a nice surprise. Additionally, I get the sense that this place would very willingly customize a pizza for you.

After that it was across the street and over to a British Pub, The Rose and the Crown, for some drinks and darts. Let me start by saying that this place was way too empty on a Saturday night. For their sake, I hope business picks up, but it was nice to play darts for a few hours without anyone hawking us or calling next game. We all had a good time, but what really stood out was the music there. It was a solid mix of 90′s and 00′s rock that gave the place a much better energy that you would think. Either way, it was a great night out, and I would highly recommend both places.
