City Pace

18 June 2008 2 views 4 Comments

The first 2 weeks I was here, I was really frustrated when walking during busy times. I couldn’t figure out where I was supposed to walk, and when to give way to people and when to push through them. Michael can attest that this is not my strength when it comes to driving, either, so I guess it isn’t too surprising that I struggle with walking, too. BUT, this morning I figured it out, more or less. It is nothing I can explain in words, but I feel like I can sense the pace of the city… Maybe I am tapping into the workerbee mentality?

So today I went to Worthing, which is home to Invoicing for HSBC. I met with another project manager there, and although he is not on my direct team at work, he was able to give me a lot of insight on a project I am working on. I think he will also be a good basketball friend for Michael, and he has invited him to join the league this fall. This means he has to take a 1 hour train to Worthing when he wants to play, but no distance is too far for basketball! Worthing is really pretty, as it sits right on the sea. I didn’t get to see much of it because my feet were absolutely killing me, but there is a lot of rolling countryside leading right up to the ocean.

And as for Michael’s previous post about me being bored… he is just jealous because I found Weemee 1st.

Oh, there are so many ways to make crowds a nonissue:

Fake C-4 vest (modeling clay works well)–probably won’t make it to your destination, though, so this kind of backfires

Fake GIGANTIC pregnant belly (or fat suit, but that gets hot–um, so I’ve heard)

Fake arm casts on both arms that stick them straight out, mummy style

    Tourette’s

I am really starting to get concerned about your aging so quickly since you have arrived in the UK. Now you are having trouble getting around in the city and your feet hurt all the time. Not to mention that you now believe you are like a jedi and can sense the pace of the city.

    John – I don’t THINK I’m a Jedi… I AM a Jedi.
