Life, London, Time Apart »
So I am starting to settle in to regular life in London. Amazingly, I still like it here, even though the brand newness of it all has slightly worn off. By that I mean that I am not really a tourist, or a business visitor anymore, just a regular citizen of London. Londoner? Londonite?
As predicted, the hardest thing for me has been being a little lonely. The good news is I haven’t been achingly homesick yet, and I haven’t cried yet (although I wanted to on Sunday with all the …

I just noticed that I have yet to get up on my soapbox and rant about something yet in this blog. Well, that streak is over…
I heard a story on NPR the other day about fortune cookies. Apparently, there are only three major companies that actually produce the fortunes that we find inside. I found it of great interest when the companies talked about how they had to be careful in crafting the fortunes in the cookies as not to offend anyone because there are certain fortunes that led to …

are the devil’s workshop, and here at the workshop we are serving up homemade chocolate chip cookies. Yes, this is Michael’s post. Yes, I made cookies. Yes, seriously! Fine, here’s proof:
Okay, I have no idea what came over me, but I made cookies. If you read the blog, consider yourself invited over to help me eat them. (They are actually edible.) It was a bit of a challenge since I didn’t quite have the ingredient list skating at full strength, but I don’t think anyone will notice. I do however …

You knew it was going to be a weird day when Comet limped in to me this morning after she woke up on three legs. Somehow in her night full of stretching groaning and rolling around on her bed, her front paw got hooked in her collar. She hopped over to me and sat down. She knew who to come to.
An hour later, I received instant messages from a very frustrated and cranky sutton named Jennifer. Apparently, her internets were not working and she needed help. As the go to …

Well I am officially moved into 9 Herbal Hill. It is a purpose built set of flats, but pretty nice. Of course it is on the spendier side of the budget, but I wanted someplace safe and convenient. Amazingly, finding a new home in a new country with one week’s notice is harder than you might imagine. It was difficult finding a place where I could stay for the interim period of waiting for Michael to come out, especially since we don’t have an exact date in mind yet – …

I started off the day with the hotel’s breakfast, which consists daily of scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms, baked beans with tomato (?) sauce, sausages, blood patties, bacon, potatoes, fruit, and croissant. I really wanted to go back to Borough for breakfast, since it has been voted the best place in London for brunch, but I am trying to be fiscally responsible, and that means eating free food when it is there. I was seated next to a French group – seems like it was a man, his young daughter, …

So I (the Princess in this story) woke up this morning in excruciating pain. My lower back was KILLING me. I rolled over to get out of bed, put my foot down, and my leg didn’t work!!! It just kind of collapsed under me, which was really weird. Luckily the bed was right under me, so I just kind of laid back down. Naturally, I assumed that I had some sort of Sciatic Nerve meltdown, given Michael’s recent bout with nerve damage. I realized I was laying on something on …

There are a lot of French things in London, including a creperie close by my hotel, where I dined this evening
Amazingly, I made my first British Rail trip without a hitch. I had to go to the Euston Tube station to pick up my rail tickets, backtrack to the St Pancras Tube to connect to the Leicester station (which is about 1.5 hours north of London). I met the Leicester staff, who were very helpful. I will say, however, if I have to look at one more hand drawn diagram …

I was a tourist today, which was great. I had a few errands to run, too, but I spent the majority of my time today acclimating myself to all the great things London has to offer. So here’s the rundown:
I left the hotel this morning around 9:00am and walked across the Hungerford Bridge to Trafalgar Square, which is the most famous square in England, which is named to commemorate Nelson’s victory over the French and Spanish at Cape Trafalgar in 1805. It has a 170 foot high statue, …

So now my process begins, the selling of cars, the procuring of a house renter, the storage of goods. Ah, yes, the glamorous side of globetrotting is now upon us me. Well, luckily, some advance work was done, so it shouldn’t be too bad, but I’m ready to go to London tonight! Anybody need a 2007 Honda Fit Sport?
