It is very interesting to me that the Brits care about the US so much! Especially US politics. On the one hand, a lot of people seem reluctant to say anything for fear of rocking the boat - I am sure they think I am just another gun toting, Bush loving, cowboy dancing (?) American who can barely point to the US on a map - but I DO actually have a mind about politics - and I’d rather be challenged than have them just keep quiet!
So the other night I was out with my fancy French friend Murielle, and we were discussing politics and she agreed that the general viewpoint on Americans is that they are either really, really dumb, or really really naive. She wondered how we let Bush get “elected” a second time. She commented about how it seems that many Americans think Obama is a terrorist just waiting, watching, biding his time for the perfect moment to ATTACK! I was amazed at how much she knew about American politics (but to be fair, she was shocked I even knew the name of the French president). Anyway, we wondered about conspiracies and vote rigging, and then decided to talk about visiting Brighton next weekend instead.
So this year I will be voting from abroad. I think I have to do it from the US embassy… I submitted a form on www.votefromabroad.com (for my many, many expat readers), and I just have to send it in to get my absentee ballot. I feel so worldly!!!!
So, anyone want to sway my vote in any direction?
