Zero to Three in Sixty Minutes
The hospital called me today to ask if I could make it in for a scan appointment this afternoon, as they had a cancellation. I was beyond excited and said YES!!! So I went in and waited for an hour (waiting seems to be a theme with doctors here). I was a little disappointed that Michael couldn’t be there to see our baby together for the first time, but we had talked about it ahead of time and agreed that I would just go in at the earliest appointment.
The technician asked some questions and had me hop up on the exam table. They have nice little ultrasound gel warmers so I wasn’t shocked into premature labor! This scan is called an anomoly scan… most women have a date scan around 10-12 weeks, and then this one around 20 weeks, and since I hadn’t had the date scan here in the UK, they really wanted to see what was going on. Basically, they are checking for the baby’s sex, looking for multiples, and verifying that there are no problems.
So the good (?) news, I am NOT having twins as everyone suspected. Everything checked out just fine – everyone is healthy and on track. The surprising news is that I am only currently 13 weeks along! So why am I so big, I asked? Well… that is becaue we are actually having triplets. Oh yes, you read right. There are 3 of them. 3 Babies. 3. AND, 2 are identical twin girls, and a separate boy. The boy is getting a little crowded by the girls, but he is thriving and doing just fine. They called pretty much every person they could find into the room to watch the spectacle unfold. I was in such shock (and still am) that I didn’t even care that 84 people were gaping at my already big, and soon to be GIANT stomach. I have the pictures here, but I can’t get them up onto the site until tomorrow – we have a scanner at work, so I will upload the for you ASAP. I am just beyond shocked. As you may recall, we weren’t planning on having ANY children, but were really happy about our SINGLE bundle of joy… to go to having three…. I am still just trying to get my head around it. I almost just don’t believe it.
Naturally, I don’t get three times as much maternity leave. I know we will work it out, but it is just a lot to grasp right now.
When I called Michael, he thought I must be playing a practical joke, which I am! Tee hee…. my scan is scheduled for the 14th of April. Let’s hope karma doesn’t bite me in the ass… Happy April Fool’s Day!!!

If Michael faints because of you…..
I think you just want to catch up with Heather and Kristin.
One will be a great plenty…a bountiful sufficiency…a wonderous event. You get the picture.
Let us know when you have the real ultrasound….tomorrow?
I think I almost fainted reading that post! I thought to myself – 3 babies – at one time – GOOD LUCK! hahaha.
That’s it, I’m outta here!
Leave your response!
