“Somebody Stole My Passport and Wallet”

Jen and I welcomed our first visitors today. We’ve had the pleasure of seeing friends passing through and taking them to Mildred’s but this week we welcomed our first flat guests and the first to utilize the guest bed.

Unfortunately those guests arrived at 6am at Heathrow, and as I shortly learned, there isn’t a train that even leaves to go out to Heathrow until 5:54 am. Fortunately, Mom and Dad were willing to wait at the coffee shop while I got out to Terminal 5. Why Terminal 5? Because Jen told me, “all international flights come into Terminal 5.” Why I believed this I have no idea seeing that 4 UK only terminals in Heathrow would be rediculous, no not ridiculous, rediculous. I have since come to believe that I am pretty easily swayed at 4 in the morning.

So once I was able to find them at Terminal One, we gathered things up, hit the bathrooms before our train trip and I called Jen to let her know everything was going fine. Right before we left the area we heard the weirdest page for John & Michael Walker (mine and my dads name). We paused for a second, but realized it wasn’t for us since we had just talked to Jen and no one else would be paging us.

We headed downstairs and bought them Oyster cards and boarded the Underground. At the Houndslow West stop, my Dad started making a panicky face I rarely see him make. At Houndslow Central, my Dad declared, “Somebody Stole My Passport and Wallet.” We made it off the train at Houndslow East to turn around and head back to the airport.

On the platform, we tried to calm my Dad with false assurances. It was this time however that a light bulb went on and I realized that the someone else who was paging John and Michael Walker was actually paging John Michael Walker (Dad’s full name). I suggested this to my dad who replied, “well, how would they know my middle name?” Well Dad, they probably read your passport… To his defense he was already flustered.

Everything was safe and sound as it had fallen out of his pocket somehow at the coffee shop. Even his cash was still in his wallet, so luckily the story had a nice happy ending.
