Bath Daytrip

Bath is world famous for it’s bath houses (obviously) that the Romans established way back in the day. When we arrived in the city I would definitely say that it seemed like they would be the highlight of the trip. As it turned out, the bath houses were (while very educational) one of the more average parts. The city itself is quite beautiful and picturesque. It is situated in the middle of seven hills and on the Avon river. What turned out to be the beauty of the city was the mix of architecture and a small town feel. After a lot of London lately, it seemed very slow paced which was a welcome change. The city was still quite busy, but definitely manageable, and what a great day! It was 70 and sunny which made just walking around the streets a joy.

The Bath Abbey is small but quite nice and reminiscent of the one in Westminster. I found it more intriguing than the bathhouse. Some of my negativity toward the bathhouse centers on the fact that it was extremely crowded by a number of tours. I think that combined with the way they tried to restructure everything with dramatic lighting turned me off. I don’t know; it came off cheesy. Maybe it just caught me on the wrong day. That being said, I wholeheartedly recommend the city.
One of the main areas is near the main circus on Gay Street. Yeah we snickered too. Apparently Nicholas Cage owns flat number 8 of the main circus which isn’t a Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey affair. Think of it as an inside out coliseum where houses are a large circle around a green area. Back in the day this is where the socialites lived. I suppose it is the 18rh century equivalent of the suburban cul-de-sac in a very prominent neighborhood. Either way, right near this circus Jen and I found an excellent build your own Panini in a corner cafe. Two blocks away we found a fudge shop that is hands down the best I have ever had. It is called San Francisco Fudge, and friends if you like fudge, you must go here. Of course, I say this today – 3 days before we head to Brussels for our whirlwind tour of chocolate, waffles and beer.
Finally, today I’m trying something new here which is blogging on the bus ride back on my iPhone to try and keep this all fresh and full of typos while literally everyone around me is sleeping which reminds me; naps are good, so is bath and so is the San Francisco Fudge in Bath.

Looks like you are seeing some cool stuff. Hope everyone is having fun.
