31 weeks, 4 days….or… Oooops….
I had a midwife appointment today. The quick version is that everything is just fine.
Here is the long version for the Grandmas to be. I love my midwife, She reminds me of my friend Melanie, who knows everything about having babies. Everything. Yet strangely isn’t a know it all. I have been bounced around a lot during this pregnancy (mostly my own doing), and so I had a ton of questions about London specific issues. She was super helpful, and is encouraging me to have the baby at home! I’m not sure I am ready for that, but I did promise to think about it. They can bring a little pool to your flat and I guess you just sit in it and have the baby?! Any weigh ins? The only bad thing I am doing is eating peanut butter. I love peanut butter, and thought it was a great way for me to get protein, but alas, I am told that it can cause allergies in your little one (hence the ooops…). I raced home and looked it up online, and it seems this data is a little outdated. There is little actual proof that eating peanuts during pregnancy actually causes anything – other than a delicious taste sensation!!! I have to go in to have my RH- shot tomorrow, yuck. She also signed me up for childbirth classes. Michael can go if he wants, but usually the dads don’t join, since the moms all sit around and chat for awhile after the class. I am hoping to make some friends there who will have babies the same age as Baby, so they can drool on each other, or whatever it is that babies do with their friends when they are that little. It will just be nice to have some people to hang out with, once he is born, since no one else probably cares what color the baby pooped that day. I got to hear his strong little heartbeat again today, which is thrilling each time! Unfortunately, Baby was bad again today – he kicked the sonogram when we were trying to listen – several times. He is exactly the right size, so for those of you who think I am enormous… well you’re right, but apparently I am the right size of enormous. I was also told that I look extremely healthy! The midwife (Liz) said she can’t believe I am a vegetarian because I look so healthy. Ummm.. thanks? Then she took a whole bunch of blood, and Mom, I am sorry to say you have met your match. Now granted you haven’t given me a shot in a long time, nor drawn blood, but Liz is GOOD at it. I honestly didn’t even know she took 4 vials of blood! But you’re still my best Mom. I hope Liz gives me my shot tomorrow. Unfortunately, she could not alleviate my intense back or groin pain. But she did say it is normal, and I just have to ride it out. Luckily, I have the best husband in the world, who has forbidden me from doing anything but sit around until baby arrives.
So all is well, and I will certainly have some kind of story about my shot tomorrow!

Hey Jennifer. I’m a childhood friend of Michael’s and I can’t help but laugh at your blogs. Your unborn son sounds just like my first (Michael). Michael was crazy in the womb and is proving to be just as crazy outside of the womb. He is 16 months now and he can’t sit still for more than 5 seconds. Unfortunately the middle of the night entertainment does last for a bit, but the phrase that I repeated over and over was ‘this too shall pass.’ It’s all SO worth the sleepness nights and there is nothing that I love more than being a Mom. Good luck with your last handful of weeks.. they are tough, but it sounds like your hubby is of great help.
Good luck!
Thanks Jessica – I totally agree that this will all be worth it. I’m guessing there is no way to prepare, but I think I am ready for the sleepless nights! Glad to hear you are loving motherhood!
I do not know everything about having babies. Everything I’ve told you is a big practical joke. Ha ha uh ha?
Alexander kicked constantly too. I guess they kick at night because you’re not moving. When you move, you tend to lull him to sleep. That’s one of the reasons a sling or carrier is so wonderful if your baby isn’t napping well. I think it lessened near the end just because he started running out of room, so he moved around and pressed on things uncomfortably, but there was less kick with recoil.
You foul trickster!!! He is actually starting the slow down process already, so his kicks are more like big, slow movements. I really don’t mind, I just need something to complain about, since everything else is so great right now!
The Mom opinion is: Have my grandson in the hospital where he and my child will have great care! I’m sorry you had to have a thick shot, but at least the technique was good and since it just might save baby’s very life….I’d guess you’re happy to have it available. These last weeks are truely tough with the aches and pains, but the result will be miraculous!
