Where’s His Head???

28 July 2009 1 views 5 Comments

I had my last antenatal class tody which was followed by my biweekly midwife appointment. My regular midwife was gone and in her place was and older lady who was very upset because she was running behind schedule. She had me hop on on the exam table and tried to find the baby’s location, to make sure he was staill in the proper position for birth. She was pressing really, really hard – to the point where it hurt! Finally she said, “Well, I can’t find the head.” Ummmmmm… where did it it go? So she decided that she better send me to have a quick scan, just to make sure that the head didn’t disappear. She also thought that since I had a fall yesterday, it would be a good idea just to make sure all was well in general. So off I went to the hospital, where they have a special unit just to do quick scans and make sure everything is ok. The ultrasound nurse did a manual check and said she was pretty confident he still has a head, but she would run the scan anyway, which she did, and he does. Whew. THAT would have been tricky to explain. Unfortunately, there are no photos fromt his scan because they don’t have the facility to print, and he is too big to really see detail anyway. I could see his heart and a few fingers, and I also learned he is fully engaged! That is step one (you may recall earlier posts where he was 1/5 engaged… now he is 5/5 engaged) , but can happen several weeks prior to birth, so it doesn’t necessarily mean anything at all.  So Baby Sutton still has a head, which is quite a relief.

I’m glad baby sutton has a head…..as it would be awkward if he didn’t. although, either way, i would love him just the same.

I don’t know. Since you couldn’t really see detail, are you sure it was his head and not, say, a small cantaloupe?

It might have been a large orange, or another baby’s head… the possibilities are endless.
