An Angry Little Man

Zev can get quite angry sometimes – hunger, dirtiness in the pant region, and being awakened (versus waking up on his own) all get him pretty irritated.

He’s a strong sucker!

When babies are born here, they give them a routine hearing screening a few hours after birth. They wheel a little cart to your bed and perform a test. Zev’s left ear passed, but the right ear was inconclusive, and therefore did not pass. This meant that he would need to be rescreened with more sensitive equipment later, and he had this appointment yesterday. Interestingly, a few hours after the initial test, several drops of brown liquid came out of his right ear, and I have to think that it …

Life With Zev

Well we are starting to settle into life with our little angel. We have a basic schedule, but it is pretty loose. We all go to bed around 11:30, and Zev wakes me sometime between 2 and 4am. He is starting to sleep longer and longer, and I am hoping that before too long, he will regularly sleep until 4 or 5. The later he sleeps, the more alert he becomes when he does wake up, so he not only wants to eat, but also play! This means we …

Where’s the Belly Now? (And other randomness…)

So I’m just wondering, after seeing all of those photos of Jen’s belly over the past 10 months, where are they now? I’m not sayin, I’m just sayin…
The boy will be three weeks old tomorrow and it is funny how his little face has already has started becoming more boy like. Life is starting to settle a bit at home which is nice to come home to since work seems like a never ending torrent of busy work and endless requests. Nothing makes you miss owning your own business like …

Good Curse Idea

If you really hate someone, you should consider ruining their otherwise fairytale pregnancy by having a witch doctor curse them with PUPPS (I’d never heard of it either….).
About a week before Zev was born, I got this weird brownish red itchy patch on my belly. The midwife said it was probably a version of a stretch mark, but nothing to worry about. It itched a little bit, but I thought that was from my skin being stretched to its absolute limit. It didn’t get worse, so I didn’t think much …

2 Week Notice

Whew… what a busy two weeks. First Zevry was born, then Jen’s mom came to town and now it is time to catch our collective breath and get ready to watch some NFL football!
Anyway, it has been a whirlwind of midwifes and nappies and short spans of sleep. I am sitting at the computer typing this and all has been quiet in the flat for a few hours now. How nice. Zev loves his mom more than anything and he’s even responding to her voice now. He knows where his …

Zev’s Growing Up!

My mom came to London on Thursday. This is her first trip overseas and we are so excited to have her here – first because she’s my mom, and you really need your mom after you have a baby. And second, she has worked for a pediatric practice for years and years and she has a lot of great advice and knowledge about wee ones.
So yesterday we were out shopping and Zev started howling. We went to change him, which is definitely what was making him mad, and we saw …

Our First Night

After about an hour or so of private time in the delivery room you get moved to the postpartum ward. The ward is made up of 6, 6 bed units (36 beds). Each family gets a private area which is curtained off, but you are definitely in a group environment. My little section had the added benefit of being right in front of the nurses’ station, which basically meant that I got to listen to them bicker and complain about the doctors all night! The first night there were 3 …

Baby Zev’s Birth Story

First of all – thank you to everyone for your support, love and good wishes over the last several months. This blog has been a fantastic way for us to share this incredible time with all of our friends and family, and I love seeing your comments and knowing you are all rooting for us!
*** I decided to record this experience in some detail, so please don’t read it if you will be offended by that sort of thing.

The birth was an incredible experience. I started recording contractions at 2:40pm …
