Birdy
Zev has been really interested in birds lately. We go swimming a few times a week and then sit out in the shade and wait for the hot air to dry us off. While we do that, a lot of birds fly overhead. They fly from tree to tree, and sometimes land on the roof or the ground. A few weeks ago, Michael was holding him the pool and he pointed in the air and said bird one time, but then he didn’t say it again. He also made the sign for bird once or twice in London, but then didn’t do it again until yesterday. Now he is making it constantly. This morning after breakfast he saw birds outside on the patio and he crawled over and sat and watched them. Every time I turned my back he was crawling over to see if they had some back. Then this afternoon while we were swimming he saw a helicopter and few airplanes fly over, and he made the bird sign at them. I showed him the sign for airplane, but I don’t know the helicopter sign so I just let that go. It is really amazing to watch him learning his new words and see this whole new world of communication opening up for him. Michael is very patient with helping him retain his knowledge too – he helps him sign “more” and “eat.” Zev’s started signing milk quite a lot… to the point where the sign for milk kind of means everything, so Daddy is helping him remember that there are signs for lots of different things, and I think that his acquisition of “bird” is a real breakthrough.
