First Trip to the Dentist

6 December 2010 32 views One Comment

We visited the dentist today. She was nice enough and seemed to know what she was doing. Zev wasn’t scared and in fact wanted to “bas?!” which means I want to get in/on that thing I am pointing at (in this case the chair), but can also mean I want to get down from this thing I am in/on.

He was actually having a grand time, what with all the pretty ladies admiring how cute he is, until he had to have flouride put in his mouth. They actually paint it on their little teeth and for some reason he didn’t like it one bit. But he made it through and all is well. He has seven teeth, an eighth about to erupt, and two more which should be coming in the next 2 weeks.

In other news, his language skills are growing every day! He knows so many words now: truck, car, dog, Ocho, Comet, Mama, Dada, bath, abath (which means the bathtub), miaow, woof, ball, book, the aforementioned bas, bird, water, outside (which he pronounces ouut… sigh) and a few more I am forgetting. He also knows about a dozen or so signs including the sign for thank you, shoe, please, and airplane. He can run, walk backward, draw a scribble with a crayon, feed himself, use the scoop to feed the dogs, sort shapes, put his laundry in his hamper, and bring me things such as a specific toy or book. If you ask him which book he wants to read, he’ll almost always say Brown Bear or Dig Dig… of course his pronunciation is less than perfect, but you can definitely understand what he is saying! And he also gets really mad at the dogs sometimes, which is hilarious. The other night, Michael got in around 12am and Zev and I were asleep in our bed (we had guests sleeping in Zev’s room, so he got to co-sleep for a week). The dogs went crazy when Michael got home, barking and wagging their tails against every surface in the house. They woke Zev up and spent a good 10 minutes yelling at them! He shook his finger at them in a tiny fit of rage, he scolded and yelled and said, “That dog!” about 10 times. I wish I had been thinking clearly because it would have been a good video.

Finally, Zev definitely has opinions and his own wants and needs. And he doesn’t hesitate to let you know what they are. The tantrums have begun, but we generally stop them before he gets out of hand. I pick my battles. If he wants a pretzel or he wants to sit in the sink, I let him. If he wants to play with the scissors and eat candy, he can scream all he wants, but its not going to happen.

All in all, he is a good, well behaved boy. Of course he fusses and howls sometimes I wonder why we didn’t get the extended warranty on him, but 90% of the time he is a joy, and a ton of fun to watch. He loves to play and laugh and one of his favorite things is to make someone else laugh. I think he is smart and cute and sweet, but my opinion doesn’t probably count for a lot!!!
