I bought nappies today. And nappy rash cream. And baby wash. And baby shampoo. And baby wipes. I know six months from now, these will all be part of our normal routine, but it felt very weird and special to be buying all these little bits for someone who isn’t even really here yet. On the nappy note – we have been trying to decide if we should go with cloth, disposables, or hybrids. Regular disposables were really out of the question due to the environmental impact, and lately I …

Amazingly, nothing extraordinary happened at swim today. I saw an old lady with an extremely hairy back, but that was about it. So I thought I would reply to Melanie’s comment a few posts back. They do heavily promote swimming as a fantastic pregnancy specific workout here, although I am still the only obviously pregnant woman at the pool. I think there are two reasons. First, it is a great exercise for pregnant women – no impact, good all around benefits for the whole body, and you feel nice and …

Who would you think is the worst in terms of clothes buying for Baby? Yeah, I thought it would be me, too. And I AM pretty bad about buying every cute thing I see. But you know who is going to spoil him beyond belief? Nope, not the Grandmas (though they are making a spectacular effort… and I mean truly spectacular). No… the worst would be Daddy – that’s right, we finally found Michael’s soft spot, and it is his little baby. Frankly, I think it is amazing and wonderful …

It was really hot here yesterday – 84 degrees! Which is just about unbearable to the Brits. In fact they have issued heat wave warnings, and all the papers have headlines like “Killer Heat Wave!!!” To be fair, air conditioning is pretty unusual here, especially in people’s homes, and only the really big office buildings have it (Michael has to suffer with just a fan and an open window).
So it was fantastic to go swimming. Unfortunately, the adult basketball they had listed in conjunction with the open swim was ladies …

Yes – they really call them costumes over here, and no, you won’t be treated to a photo of me in it. I decided I need to get a little exercise, since it is hard for me to even walk that much these days. So Michael and I found a couple of pools nearby and we’re going to give it a go tonight. Well, I am anyway. Michael is going to play basketball at the same facility. Unfortunately, my size 6 bikini is a thing of the past (for now), …

I was confirmed with B- blood today (which I already knew, but they wanted to test). So I had to have the Rh- shot. A Scottish midwife gave it to me, and I could barely understand what she was saying!!! Something about hating this jab because it is quite thick.
Anyway, my stupid arm hurts now and I couldn’t sleep last night because my stupid back hurts. I kept poor MIchael up all night with my tossing and turning, but he didn’t complain once.
My iron is a little low – it …

I had a midwife appointment today. The quick version is that everything is just fine.
Here is the long version for the Grandmas to be. I love my midwife, She reminds me of my friend Melanie, who knows everything about having babies. Everything. Yet strangely isn’t a know it all. I have been bounced around a lot during this pregnancy (mostly my own doing), and so I had a ton of questions about London specific issues. She was super helpful, and is encouraging me to have the baby at home! I’m …

If anyone is interested, yu can check out the street view on Google Maps. For those of you who don’t know how to do it:
1. Go to Google Maps Street View

Baby Sutton has go to be the most active baby around town. Plus he is a night owl. He just loves to kick, punch, swirl, whirl, stretch, and bounce from about 2:30-5am every night. This has been going on for a long time, but due to high demand, he has added 2 extra performances a day. That’s right, you can now experience his wild antics at 10am and 5pm too! Each performance lasts about 2 hours. If he is feeling especially energetic, he sometimes likes to throw in a post …
